Fifty firefighters are battling a bushfire burning near homes in Wahroonga, in Sydney's north.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) reported on Sunday night that the fire was burning in the Lane Cove National Park on Sydney's northern outskirts. A FRNSW spokesman said the blaze was near houses on Yanilla Avenue and Morona Avenue but was not posing any danger to homes. He said 11 fire trucks and 50 firefighters were at the scene and had brought the blaze under control. 'We've got those fire crew surrounding the fire and are extinguishing it,' he said. He expected favourable weather conditions would aid the operation in the next few hours. 'It's under control now, it's a matter whether we can full extinguish it,' the spokesman told AAP. 'I'd say we will, we've got favourable weather conditions.' The spokesman advised anyone in the area suffering from the effects of smoke to stay inside. He also said locals should contact emergency services if they believed smoke was coming from another fire in the area. Here are the Radian scores for October. Welcome to Patrick Chu, Andrew Green and Wayne ( Woodie) Wood. All 3 are members of the Macquarie Model Soaring Club. After 12 months without a field the club has finally found a new flying field which is hardly bigger than a soccer field and is surrounded by tall trees. Look it up on Google earth if don't believe me. It is the George Christie Playing Field Wahroonga NSW. The field is best suited for climb and glide models. As a consequence most of our members have acquired Radian gliders. We have lots of fun doing our Radian postal heats. We had 7 Radians in the air together last weekend. Landing can be very interesting indeed! Many thanks to you all for supporting the Radian postal competition. We now have 19 regular flyers! Next year the first round will be in January and the duration task will be increased to 6 minutes. The motor run will stay at 20 seconds . This will be reviewed half way through the year. For those interested, November is devoted to a fly-off. Every one is welcome to take part. The winner of the Radian Postal 2012 will be the one who records the longest flight of those who have posted 4 maximum scores through out the competition so far. The rule is simple- fly as long as you can on a 20 second motor run and post me your score by the end of November. Regards, Gary.
Recently the Macquarie Model Soaring Club has acquired access to a new flying field situated at George Christie Playing Fields in Wahroonga.
